What technology do I need to be successful in CDES?

The purpose of the Laptop/Technology Requirement is to provide architecture and landscape architecture studio laptop users with an online reference and guide in order to facilitate the successful integration of digital resources and student computers.

What technology does CDES provide?

CDES Computer Labs

CDES offers 3 fully equipped computer labs, two labs are reserved for teaching, however when a class is not in session these labs can be used by students. The computer lab in 127 is a 24-Hour Access working lab for students who pay the CDES technology fee. You can find out more about what is in each lab by checking out the Software & Hardware pages.

Printing and Plotting Available in the Computer Lab

We offer a wide range of printing capabilities that are available to the students that pay the CDES Technology fee for the semester. You can find all the information you need about what we offer in the above link.
Remote printing from your laptop os also available within Rapson Hall. Once you have followed the necessary steps here please bring your laptop to the CDES Computer Lab in Rapson Hall 127. A CD with the printer drivers is available to you there.

Why do I want to access CDES's online resources?

CDES has many resources online to be convenient for you to access from home, studio, and the CDES Computer Labs. The CDES web site offers a great deal of information that was once only accessible on paper in person. The University of Minnesota is moving in the same direction. Beyond replacing handouts and forms, the network access that you will soon have is changing some of the formerly non-hi-tech areas of CDES. The CDES slide library is moving it's collection online for example.

How do I access the CDES Network?

Go to Accessing the CDES Network PDF.

Why do I want to access the CDES Network?

Accessing the CDES network using your laptop enables you to use networked storage servers (such as the Classes Folder and Netfiles) and Printing.
